Valentine Hearts
As I mentioned in my previous post, the Self Love 365 class helped to “reboot” my creative endeavors a wee bit. Not only did I fill in a few inchies before the class actually took place (so that I could start on the “right” square that night), but for whatever reason, playing with all that colour made me want to pick up my vibrant crochet thread again and make, well… something.
Aunt Lydia’s Fashion Crochet Thread, Size 3
With Valentine’s Day only a few days away, I decided to make a little sweetheart bunting for the fireplace mantle. I used the heart pattern that I had discovered, modified, and used for several of my washcloths (which I’ve included it at the end for you keeners). I just started crocheting. On and off. When I got the chance. For a couple of days.
Soon, I had over a dozen of them.
Which I tied off and started stitching together using a simple chain stitch…
And voilà. A pretty little garland, just in time for Valentine’s Day.
Not to mention all of the hand-made valentines the boys and I crafted. 😉 Of course, I got horribly sick the day of Valentine’s, and I haven’t really done anything creative since (during my recovery)… but we’ll get there again, I’m sure. Anyhow. Love to you and yours! ♥ ♥ ♥
Mini Crochet Hearts Pattern
Using the size 3 thread, and a size 1/2.75mm crochet hook…
First layer: chain 4 onto a magic circle. Going around the circle, add the following stitches: 2 triple crochet, 3 double crochet, chain 1, 1 triple crochet, chain 1, 3 double crochet, 2 triple crochet, chain 3. Pull the circle closed and single crochet into the center to close off the heart. Chain 1 to start second layer (which is all single crochet stitches and chain stitches).
Second layer: single crochet 1 stitch per chain stitch (below, in first layer). Right before where the first triple stitch is, add 2 single crochets. Add 2 single crochets right after this triple as well, then go back to 1 single crochet for every stitch in the first layer below. When you get to the bottom of the heart (the triple crochet), do 1 single crochet right before the triple stitch, chain 1, and then continue to single crochet in every stitch until you get up to the top triples. After the first triple crochet, do 2 single crochet stitches, followed by 2 more right after the last triple, then go back to single crochet until the end.
Tie it off by cutting thread about 3″ from the last stitch and pulling the thread through. Use your hook to weave the thread through the back of the heart and tie it to the end of the magic circle. Cut loose ends. Stitch the hearts together using a simple chain stitch.
