August Break 2012 – Day 16

August Break 2012 – Day 16

Just got back from a wee trip down south of the border, and I’m playing a bit of catchup… Between the laundry, grocery restocking, and wrangy car-laggy children, (not to mention the exhaustion), I didn’t have much time for photos yesterday. So I took a couple this morning.

Apparently, there was a giant hail storm whilst we were gone. Friends were posting photos of golfball-to-egg sized hailstones. Luckily, our garden seems to have been spared. After all of the junky food we ate on the trip, it is definitely time for some detox.

This morning I whipped up some apple-cucumber-beet-ginger juice (for the detox benefits), as well as some apple-carrot-ginger juice (just because I like it) for later. There is something ridiculously gratifying about following a food from seed/flower to fruit/veg to washing/peeling to consuming… Totally amazing!!!

  1. Whoa! that last picture is brutal
    Love the juice glass photo.
Me and my husband are just starting to dive in and feel, yes, the ridiculous and real earthy joy and pride from eating and enjoying our own food.
Will be tearing up lots more respectable and tame grass to expand our kitchen gardens. Taking our house off the market and hunkering down, deciding that this is to be our home and community for a year or two more.
Sustainable lifestyle in the snooty suburbs, for us.
Hope you enjoy the rest of your holiday.
    Cheers,
    Leah

    1. Yeah. Poor butterflies. =(
Good for you for expanding your gardens!
I truly think it’s something we all should be doing more of.
It’s a lot of work, but it’s the kind of work that truly satisfies.
We too decided to stay put, after talking things over with a realtor-friend last year.
Now, we’re sprucing up the place both inside and out, and making it even more liveable as the boys grow.
Holidays are done – just the pictures to enjoy now.
Hope your summer continues to be “diggable”.
      😉
