PSA: Making Your Mask Even More Adjustable
Just wanted to pop on to let y’all know that the masks I’ve made (or that you’ve made using my pattern, or even that you’ve gotten elsewhere – so long as they have a tie instead of ear-elastics) are even more adjustable than you might think! Not only does the mask itself slide along the tie that can be knotted at whatever length necessary (thus ensuring a secure fit to a variety of face sizes) but…
If you struggle with repeated tying of the strap behind your head, you have options!
Have somebody assist you with tying the ends behind your head one time, and then leave the mask tied all the time (i.e. through wearing and washing/drying and wearing again…)
To put it on, simply slide the mask to the top of the loop (nose side has the smallest opening), put the big opening over your head (the front of the mask faces in, toward your body), then slide the mask more to the middle of the big loop, and finally, put the top of the loop over your head and you’re done!
If you have multiple small stops to make, you can always simply slide the mask off your nose and mouth between stops…
OR, if you happen to have a “cord lock” that you’re not using (from an old bag or something)… you can use it to keep the tie ends together, sliding it up/down as necessary to secure the mask to your face.
However… if you would prefer to have the mask sit on you ears instead (I only added elastic loops to the kid masks I made, because of the elastic shortage at the time/the lack of adjustability)…
You can simply cut the tie in half, and tie each half into a small loop that fits around each ear (trim the ends so they don’t get caught on anything)…
Voila!
Three more ways to adjust your mask for easy/comfortable wearing.
Hope that helps. Stay safe, y’all!!! 🙂
