Everyone Needs A Secret…

In roughly a week, one of my dear friends and her family will be moving to Australia. Although it makes me very sad to see Jasmine go, I am grateful for getting to know her over the last few years, and for all the fun we’ve had together. *sigh*  Now, during the summer, she had asked me to make her some dresses… and then a “1950s inspired” apron. I *finally* got around to putting the apron together, altering my DIY pattern a little bit to closer approximate the sample photo she sent me (see below). Then I decided to give it to her as a combination belated birthday / going away gift. *siiiiigh*

I made the apron with a little more coverage than the inspiration (I don’t know about you, but I’m a messy baker). I also decided that instead of a plain, boring inner lining… she deserved something extra…

Clark Kent has his Superman symbol under his Daily Planet uniform, and I figured… so should Jasmine!

Although technically not “reversible” (the lining doesn’t really match the trims, and there is no pocket on this side)… it’s like her “secret identity” inner apron. She is now ready to bust out her Mom Super Powers whenever the need arises!!! (I now think everyone should have super symbols under their regular clothes… don’t you???)

The reveal. We met at IKEA today, to let our kids play together, to have one last hang out, to exchange “stuff”… and I made her try it on – over her jacket and everything! I think she likes it. =)
