August Break 2013 – Week Two
August Break 2013 – Day 4
“Love”
Yesterday, we headed out to the mountains to attend a folk festival, and I wasn’t sure what my chances of snapping a good photo of “love” were… so I chose/posted a photo from last month that I felt captured the sentiment well. It is rare that I get a good yoga practice in once Monkeyboy Junior Jr. wakes up… but I certainly DO get a lot of love. 😉
August Break 2013 – Day 5
“Close-Up”
Took a few minutes to appreciate the garden this morning – close-up and personal. Not necessarily my “best work” photographically, but it certainly was yummy. 😉

August Break 2013 – Day 6
“Diagonals”
I saw this as I was driving to get groceries today, and it made me smile. And think of Leah. Who also has a pink fence. Which is something I, myself, might do on the inside of my yard… maybe… a part of it… somewhere. But not on the outside, for some reason. Hmm… Anyhow. I love how the leaves got painted a bit too, as if to get in on the colourful action. 😉

August Break 2013 – Day 7
“Skyline”
It was one of those days when it was hard to get to where I wanted to be to take a good skyline shot, let alone get out of the house… but I managed to snap this one in my neighbourhood. When we first moved in, I could see cows from my bedroom window, and hear the coyotes conversing at night. Now, it’s houses, and more houses, and a giant (and very noisy) ring-road. le sigh With the damp weather, it was all a tad depressing, so I decided to include some other skylines from a bit further afar.
To the east of my city it’s prairie. Golden-green fields of wheat and oats (and cows…), and more colourful fields of canola. This was taken a few weeks ago, when we had friends in town and were showing them around Alberta. Driving back from the badlands as the sun was going down… it was quite stunning with the sunbeams peeking through like that…
And this was taken to the west of town, in the Rocky Mountains (it’s Castle Mountain, I think). Also snapped a few weeks ago, when we were sharing our province with our friends…
Although my city can be quite beautiful at times, I’m still a sucker for the more natural skylines nearby. 😉

August Break 2013 – Day 8
“Selfie”
You know when you have aspirations of doing you hair and makeup, putting on some killer clothes, and taking a fabulous selfie in truly flattering light? Like, say, this? Well, that didn’t so much happen today. Instead, I snapped a quickie in the children’s section of the book store, against a wall that was painted funky. Voila – everyday Kate. C’est la vie. C’est la guerre. *le sigh*
August Break 2013 – Day 9
“Taste”
As I look back in my gratitude journal, I see that several (SEVERAL!!!) of my snaps are of food or drink items. Ahem . Today is no different. 😉 Although, I had a wonderful lunch with a new friend at a yummy vegan place in town… but I was so excited to talk with her that I forgot to take any pretty photos of the pretty food! So I played catch-up when I got home – including the above fruit and spinach smoothie.
Then, my husband fired up the new milk steamer he just got, and whipped up a vanilla steamed milk. I asked to lick the spoon, but before I did, I popped a raspberry from the garden on it. Oh. My. Goodness. I think I know what I’ll be playing with tomorrow…
And then we went out to dinner. On a patio. Which added some beautiful light to some super yummy spinach dip and bread. (I am such a sucker for good bread… even if it DOES make you fat…) Anyhow. It was a delicious day.
August Break 2013 – Day 10
“Red”
Isn’t it funny.
How when you set your mind to notice something.
Like the colour red, for example.
You can’t stop noticing it.
It’s everywhere you turn.
And you kind of have to wonder.
Why you simply hadn’t noticed before.
😉
