Pretty Little Things
So. A couple of weeks back I received an e-mail saying that Market Collective was having a sale at Crossroads (Farmer’s) Market in June, and I was invited to apply for a table. I did so, with more than a few reservations (the time crunch – as it’s prime gardening season, my last so-so experience, the untested nature of this particular collaboration, the lack of “hipsterness” to my work, etc…) I guess I figured that in any case, if I got in, it would force me to buckle down and get some new stock into my Etsy store. 😉 With that in mind, I started thinking about what to make…
What first came to mind, considering the food-related nature of the sale, were these:
The crocheted pot holders/wash cloths that I made a couple of years ago, and blogged about here. But I’ve also been thinking a lot about these lately, as I have been missing working on them:
The rock cozies that I adore and blogged about here. The one bad thing about them is that they are too bulky for me to want to put them up on Etsy – it would cost a ridiculous amount to ship them anywhere, so I have only offered them for sale at actual sales. Which limits working on them considerably…
And so, during one of those 3am insomniac moments, when my brain fills with too many thoughts to let me sleep, I had the idea of combining the two types of crochet – applying the intricate and delicate rock crochet to the sturdy and compact wash cloths crochet. I’d still have the enjoyment of doing the intricate, delicate work… but in a form that I could easily ship! Win-win!!! And thus, a new creation was born.
The rainy weather of late has been a blessing – both for the newly planted garden, and for the time it has afforded me to sit in front of the fire and whip these up. I love that they’re so cute and vibrant and fun – they make holding that cast iron skillet or washing the dishes (and even my face) just that much more enjoyable. Next, I want to try using that nice and tight herringbone half double crochet stitch to make some bath mitts that I can embellish with all the delicate stuff. Wheee! Well, have yourselves a great weekend, I think it’s time for me to get back to work now. 😉
