Turkey Burger Bliss
Just a little something I came up with and thought I would share with all the carnivores out there.
Turkey Burger Bliss
- 1 pkg (ours was about 500g) ground turkey
- 1/2 medium onion
- pat of butter
- 1 egg
- handful chopped spinach
- handful Panko breadcrumbs
- handful grated cheddar cheese
- dash of salt, pepper, garlic powder, herbs de Provence, and Mrs. Dash (garlic & herb)
- vegetable oil
Preheat oven to 350F. Chop the onion into small pieces. Either saute them in the butter until soft (7-10 minutes), or if in a hurry, microwave them with the butter in a covered dish until translucent (about 2-3 minutes). Yes, precook them. Trust me. Meanwhile, put all of the other ingredients (EXCEPT for the vegetable oil) in a bowl – vary your “handfuls” and “dashes” to suit your package of turkey and taste. Mix all ingredients well by hand, adding the onions when done (careful, they’re hot), and form into burger patties (ours made 4). Heat oil in cast iron skillet on medium/medium-low. When oil is shimmery, add the patties and cook until golden, then flip and cook the other side. Insert temperature probe into largest burger, put into oven and finish cooking until internal temperature is at least 165F, although we’ve had them go up to 190F and still be very juicy… (You can either spoon out the remaining oil in the skillet and put them in in that, or put them on a new ovenproof dish.) Serve plain, on lettuce, or on a bun and ENJOY! Between the buttery onions, the melted cheese, and the spices… your mouth will thank me. 😉 I shall have to try them on the BBQ now to see how they hold up… Wheee!

Grating onion is also good. They melt in cool easily and it’s one less step. Those sound great. Good call on herbes de Provence!
I just find that my “old lady” belly can’t tolerate the slightest bit of uncooked onion, plus the wee bit of melted butter adds tons of bounce to the burger. 😉
