Visions Of Calgary

Visions Of Calgary

Today started off on a dismal note. Poor sleep. Bottle break and mess. Even a halogen lamp burn for the little one. Oy. Once I had him cooled, calmed, and distracted with a movie, I decided to distract myself with some photo editing. I find that there is no better way to turn off the cranky voice in my head than to dive into work. But where to begin? I am soooo far behind in my editing… I decided that my husband’s mosaic building event was top of the list, so I got to work.

Members of the public were invited down to the local Science Centre (Telus Spark) over the weekend to help build a “secret” Lego mosaic.

Lego trumps stuffies

Participants were given a bag containing a small base plate and a map for how it should look. They then had to find the necessary pieces to complete their square and build it.

Even Monkeyboy Jr. came down to help contribute to his daddy’s piece. Once the squares were complete, the code on the map told the builders where on the final piece it belonged.

Here are the creators of the project, my husband Dave of BrickWares, and Robin Sather, Canada’s only LEGO Certified Professional, helping one of the participants attach their square to the final piece.

The two boys and I popped down at the end of the second day to see how it all turned out. Pretty sweet, don’t you think? You can totally make out Calgary’s iconic Bow (skyscraper), the Calgary Tower, and the lions on the Center Street Bridge. Not to mention the cowboy reflected in the Bow’s glass (boy, was he ever a pain to photoshop in). I helped with the editing of the original image, and am really impressed with how it all came to life in Lego.

If you’d like to see more photos of the event, I’ve posted an album on Facebook, or you can check out more of my husband’s awesome Lego work at BrickWares.com. Anyhow. I am pleased to report that my day improved significantly after this “work-break”. I hope your day was equally good, and that y’all have a great weekend!
