A New Room For Monkeyboy Jr.
Waaay back in November, we decided it was time to update our eldest’s bedroom. Not that it wasn’t a fine room as it was, it’s just that he’d “outgrown” a lot of the stuff in it.
So, over a period of several days, I moved stuff out – toys, books, posters and stickers, even the giant shelves everything was on… Then I built the other half of his (bunk) bed, rearranged things, and had him do some “decorating”. This last bit has taken a few months to complete – finding and adding posters, stickers, etc. so that the room is “just right”. 😉 And here’s what it looks like now.
We kept the bright yellow colour, as it is a north facing room and needs all the help it can get to be “cheery”. We swapped out the tall dresser for a long one, and added a desk for homework (someday) and Lego building.
Instead of putting in the second bed (for the ridiculously few times it would get used), I made the underneath area a little reading nook for him. Bookshelves and books at one end, and a big, cozy chair and reading light at the other. It’s so much fun, I sometimes just go and sneak a few moments of quiet in there for myself. 😉
Not only does Monkeyboy Jr. love his new room, but his little brother is quite fond of it as well. In fact, we’ve had to take to “baby locking” the door lest we find the littlest in there destroying Lego creations and daredevil-climbing the ladder.
Next up: time to update the youngest’s room. We’ve already gotten him a new “big boy” mattress instead of the crib, but have yet to put it on an actual bed. Toy culling and book sorting and furniture rearranging, oh my! Wheee! And after that, who knows. The house is my oyster! 😉
