Dish Towel Dilemma
Over the last 17 years (?) or so (or however long it’s been since I moved “away from home”), I have managed to amass quite a crazy little collection of dish towels. I was taking a look at them the other day, noting how very few of them “matched” anything at all, and how every single one of them had a stain or hole or scorch mark. Mmm, lovely… no? So, out they went – to the garage rag bag, where they will no doubt come in handy to stain or paint or clean something truly gross before heading to the trash for good. Whew. That feels better. Now what?
Naturally, I needed something to replace them, so I traipsed off to various kitchen supply departments to see what was available. I have pretty high standards when it comes to dish towels, you see (holes and stains and scorch marks notwithstanding). They need to be absorbent (nothing drives me crazier than just pushing the water around on a dish that I’m trying to dry), and I’d kind of like them to match something in the kitchen – like the teals and blues in my pottery, or the warm yellows on the wall… something. Sadly, it seems that the “in” colours on the most plush looking towels I found are red, black, khaki, or olive. Or industrial white. Well, that sucks! Unless you are me, of course, and have just picked up a bunch of awesome little fat squares that you love…
A little 1/4 piece sewed to one side of the towel and voila – some fun and spunky dish towels, in virtually no time at all! Unless you count the six weeks it’s taken me to actually get to sewing the darn things… ’cause I’m not going to. 😉
I am so glad my mother taught me how to sew. I wonder when would be a good time to pass this skill on to my boys, because if there is one skill (besides cooking, of course) that I would like to pass on to them, it would be sewing. Okay, then. Time to put these puppies to work. Hope you all have a great – and spunky – weekend!

I am especially receptive when in a hot tub…

Of course, we could always chat over sushi…
I can bring one of these in case I spill the sake.
