TAB, Day 19

TAB, Day 19

With my eldest out for the day, I decided to pop the baby in his car seat with a snack and cruise the alleys for interesting photographic images. I have found that while front yards all tend to be pretty similar, people aren’t as particular about their back yards. You can sometimes find some pretty interesting things.

Prairie Boat

Like this land-locked boat…I just love the colours here!!!

Sneaky Plant

And this two-toned plant making it’s escape.

Branded Frame

And this frame (?) with different cattle brands on it.

Car - Shady

Then I found one yard (which the neighbours must love) with old cars in it. Oh, how I love the patina on rusty things!!!

Car - Aged

I added some red to this image to give it an “aged” look.

Car- Abstract

I pumped the saturation on this one to make it even more abstract.

Ford

Ford – with just a little saturation boost to show all the colours better.

As I moved on to this second vehicle, I got stung on my neck by a wasp. Everybody’s a critic. That pretty much ended my alley foray, as I thought it best to make my way home to tend to it. OUCH!

  1. Nice job Kate. I like the abstract one a lot. Very cool. Rusty old cars were made to be photographed.

Leanne and I always laugh when we pass this “CAR MUSEUM” on the way to BC. It is basically a small slice of land with a ton of dead cars on it. We have seen familes going in though.

Are you shoot in RAW or JPEG?

  2. Ok, so we need to change that. Can your cameras shoot in raw?

I won’t go into it now but the power to edit a raw image vs a jpeg is insane.

Are you using Photoshop? If so what version?

I have a book on raw that I am going to give Dave for you.

    1. I can definitely change the Canon Rebel, but I’ll have to look into the Nikon Coolpix… As for Photoshop, I actually use “Picture It!” that Jason gave us years ago. I’m realizing that Photoshop is getting to be a big want, so it’s on the list. Uh. Thank you for becoming my self-appointed photography angel?
      😉 K

  3. Yes, switch to raw on your rebel, and I’ll give the raw handbook to Dave.

One suggestion if you want to save some $ would be to buy adobe lightroom 3.

It does a ton of what Photoshop does as well as catalogue your images. I would say to go with this first. It is only $200 and I use it for 99% of my stuff.

    Check it out on adobe.com

If you don’t get the software right away, use the raw and jpeg option on your camera for now. That way you can use picture it for the jpegs and when you get light room or Photoshop you can go back and play with the raw files.
